Contamination is the leading cause of failure in a hydraulic system. Contamination is measured in microns. A grain of salt is about 100 microns and the human eyecan see down to 40 microns. A standard system should employ 10-micron filter elements while a system with proportional or servo valves should be filtered to below 3 microns or finer depending on manufacturers' requirements. Contaminiation can be introduced into a system externally from new oil and through shaft seals on hydraulic motors or cylinders. Internally, as components wear, contamination is generated. The degree of filtration required will depend on the types of components in the system and the cost associated with system downtime. Minimum filtration on a system should include a return filter to maintain clean fluid in the reservoir. Pressure filters should be placed before any component vital to system operation.

Spin-on filter design with a wide selection of media ratings. Features die-cast aluminum head and steel body. Ideal for in-plant and mobile applications. Interchangeable to Series HBK05 filters. SP80/90 double element head allows double the flow capacity and has two filters to hold more contaminant. Working pressures to 150 psi; rated static burst to 250 psi; flow range to 60 gpm (SP50/60) and 120 gpm (SP80/90).
