Q. Is it possible for a plugged or poorly maintained breather to cause seal failure on a gear reducer?
A. Yes. When the liquid warms up, it expands, as does the air inside of the enclosure. If the expansion of the air is not allowed to be vented, the built-up pressure can force lubricant past the seal causing it to leak.
