September 28, 2015 – Our valued customer, Tyson Foods, recently announced a program to donate $50 million in cash and in-kind donations over the next five years to help the fight against hunger in the United States.
Over the past 15 years, Tyson has donated 100 million pounds of food including 50 truckloads (more than two million pounds) to nonprofits in the U.S. this past summer alone.
Tyson’s five-year plan for contributions will focus on “innovative initiatives at the local level.” They will build on their existing partnerships with organizations such as, Share Our Strength, Feeding America and Food Research and Action Center.
As part of its commitment, Tyson will also recognize individuals on the front lines of fighting hunger in their communities. For example, Lola Stephens-Bell of Austin, Texas runs a restaurant where she serves free meals out the back door and closes the restaurant four days a week to drive meals to underserved people in Austin.
By buying Tyson products at your local grocery store, you can support our friends in their fight against hunger.
